A girl of Loreto Secondary School of the Catholic Diocese of Rumbek escaped forced marriage and resumed her education.

According to Good News Radio Bakhita Athiei was married to Luka Mangong who paid eighty-five cows without consensus from her.

Athiei, a form three student, urges her parents to be patient and allow her to complete her education instead of rushing to cows.

She advises her colleagues to always seek help from the government when parents are not listening.

Head teacher of Loreto Girls’ Secondary School Yuga Charles says their policies involve parents signing an agreement allowing the girl to complete four years, Good News Radio reports.

Charles appeals to parents to respect the terms and conditions of the agreement signed during admission for the girls to finish secondary education in Loreto.

Loreto Girls’ Secondary School registered nine cases of forced marriage from 2018.
