UN condemns violations against children in South Sudan

UN Security Council Working Group on Children and Armed Conflict condemns violations and abuses that continue to be committed against children in South Sudan by parties to the armed forces.
 
The violations includes recruitment and use of children, killing and maiming, rape and other forms of sexual violence, abductions, attacks against schools and hospitals and denial of humanitarian access, as well as the military use of schools.
 
The group expresses serious concern at the scale and brutal nature of violations and abuses against children.
 
It says this acts reminds them of their obligations under applicable international law.
 
The international agency wishes to take without measures to immediately end such violations and abuses to prevent their reoccurrence.
 
It Urges the Government of South Sudan to engage with the United Nations in developing and adopting a comprehensive action plan addressing the six violations against children, so that its implementation can commence without delay.
 
The Security Council Working Group on Children and Armed Conflict was established by Council resolution 1612 in 2005.
 
It reviews reports of the monitoring and reporting mechanism concerning parties in situations of armed conflict.
