Residents of Joppa have received a new solar powered water distribution system to benefit more than four thousand individuals.

The project will ensure the residents access clean water and prevent them from risk of infection of waterborne diseases such as cholera.

In a statement sent to CRN, United States Ambassador to South Sudan Tom Hushek, says, the project shows the partnership between their country and South Sudanese communities moving forward through commitment.

‘This water project shows how the U.S. Government partners with South Sudanese communities to help them achieve steps toward development through their own commitment and efforts to make projects sustainable and inclusive,’ said U.S. Ambassador to South Sudan Tom Hushek.

He states that the project aims to help and prevent the incident of gender-based violence that is happening to women and girls who fetch water.

The increase in access to clean water and improvement of health is considered as one of the efforts of US government to improve lives of people in South Sudan.

The diplomat notes that South Sudan has one of the world’s lowest rates of access to safe sanitation through contamination that carries disease.

The infrastructure in Joppa is one example of USAID’s partnership with IOM to provide clean water to communities in South Sudan.
