The state governments of Eastern and Western Lakes state have called off peace initiatives until further notice.
Last month dialogues between the two communities, who have been engaged in targeted killings at the border between Rumbek East and Yirol west, were initiated to achieve peace and reconciliation.
However, the initiatives had to be stopped when an incident, which the state minister of local government for Eastern Lakes state describes as ‘an unfortunate killing of a paramount chief and his son’, occurred.
Speaking to Good News Radio on Wednesday on phone Acting Information Minister Simon Tueny Mabor insists the two states authorities have not given up on dialogues.
Tuany says the two states need to first pursue culprits who are now raiding cattle, killing people on high ways, arrest them and stop any fight until we achieve relative stability
He reveals that security forces have been deployed at the buffer zone to prevent any further confrontation.
The paramount chief Mayek Billing and his son were killed while attending the day of the final peace conference.
The inter community conflict began late last year however, 11 months of disarmament has not stopped the continued killings
