The priests of the Catholic Diocese of Torit are in Isoke Parish for an annual retreat for one week.

Radio Emmanuel says the spiritual exercise that brings together priests of the diocese started on Monday evening with introduction of the theme and objectives that will guide the prayer.

According to Apostolic Administrator of the Catholic Diocese of Torit, Monsignor Thomas Oliha, a retreat is an essential obligation for priests under the church law.

Meanwhile, Fr. Romeo Todo, lecturer at St Paul’s National Major Seminary in Juba, who facilitates the recollection, explains that a retreat is a serious personal reflection in relation with God.

The retreat is an important practice for every person especially Christians to examine themselves before God and see whether they have done well or not, says Fr Todo.

The purpose of a retreat, as an addition to daily spiritual activities, is to temporarily leave behind the usual distractions of life and have time with God, the priest explains.

The retreat is also a time to relax and allow inner change to occur in Christians’ and priests’ hearts which is critical to deepening faith.
