The UN Mission in South Sudan or UNMISS Human Rights Division and the Ministry of Information will develop a law against hate speech influencers in the country.
Deputy Minister of Information, Lily Albino Akol says the government will look into how to stop hate speech through enacting an Act.
The minister believes most of the people who are use social media to deliver their incitement messages are not literate enough.
UNMISS Director of Human Rights Division Eugene Nindorera says it is important for people to know about hate speech and its limitations to avoid incitement of violence.
Hate speech started spreading widely after the 2013 conflict where South Sudanese in diaspora and in other parts globally attacked each other online inciting violence. This has greatly fuelled the conflict in the country resulting into more killings or death.
The official made their remarks on Monday during one-day discussion on the role of political leaders on combating hate speech in South Sudan.
