A staff meeting in Malakal Vocational Training Centre decided to extend the Christmas break up to the referendum to allow students to vote for self-determination.

Ustaz Bona Othowl Amum, the centre’s acting director, told the staff that apprenticeship students should take double holidays for Christmas and the referendum, Voice of Love reported.

Mr. Bona said that it would be very difficult for the institution to call back the students right after the Christmas a few days before the referendum.

Meanwhile, David Dak, a senior instructor, said the extra holidays would be only for the students.

Mr. Dak added that the instructors should remain in the centre for other duties.

Stephen James, the head of building department, said the extension of Christmas holidays until the referendum was a wise decision.

Usually the Malakal Vocational Training Institute goes for mid-term holidays in February but this year it has been interrupted by the referendum exercise.
