Japanese ambassador to South Sudan donates prefab offices and border patrol equipment to Directorate of Nationality, Passports and Immigration in Nimule.
Ambassador Seiji Okada says Nimule is one of the most important borders of South Sudan and Japan is committed to providing support and capacity building particularly at its borders.
The ambassador states that border management is crucial for the stability of the country and economic development through well managed flow of people and goods.
In a press statement received by CRN, it states that the aim of Japanese support is to establish a one-stop border post in Nimule, which will serve to strengthen cross-border coordination between relevant government agencies of South Sudan and Uganda, and enhance border integrity.
International Organization for Migration or IOM Chief of Mission William Barriga stresses that the occasion marks another milestone in South Sudan’s progress towards effective and civilized border management.
Bariga adds that through the generous and unwavering support of Japanese government on capacity building of migration management, it will help secure borders and also ensure the protection of migrants’ rights.
Director General of Nationality, Passport and Immigration or DNPI John Akot Maluth appreciates the support from the Japanese government and the sustained coordination by IOM.
Nimule is a strategic port of entry into South Sudan, and is a major trade route from Uganda.
Most of the goods sold in Juba and other parts of the country, transits through that part of the country en route to northern Africa and beyond.
The high level delegation to Nimule was led by Ambassador of Japan to South Sudan, Chief of Mission of International Organization for Migration and Director General for Nationality, Passport and Immigration.
