United Nations Development Program or UNDP in collaboration with the University of Juba is training citizens in Torit on leadership.

Assistant Professor in the College of Social And Economic Studies at University of Juba Abraham Kuol Nyuon says the training will help to equip local leaders on early warning mechanism so as to monitor those responsible for conflicts in localities.

Radio Emmanuel quoted him saying the participants are drawn from Ikwoto, Kidepo Valley, Torit East and Geria Counties.

‘This group is from the four counties greater Ikwotos, Kidepo County Torit East and Geria County. Will this approximately ten participant from every county and the important of this training is that this training touch on the leaders because the committee is compose of the local community leaders like the chiefs, the partners like the priest in the church, this training is going to tell leaders about early warning mechanism so that the leaders will be able to monitor the conflict drivers within their community, Dr Kuol says.

Dr. Akuol encourages leaders to promote peace in communities rather than conflict

He says leaders should devote their time serving others instead of themselves.

‘As a leader you should be a leader that encourage peace rather than conflict in your community so if that leader change from being Abad leader to a good leader there is aspect of transformation and transformation leadership in this case, is aleader that put their people first at the expense of them self’s, so we are trying to change by giving them the message of peace that for them if you are a transformation leader they should be able to put their community first, they should be able to put their people they manage first and then they should be the last people to benefit from anything’, he stresses.

A woman from Torit East County Iliha Anna Olilir says the training will help her educate local population on how to bring peace at the community level.

‘This training will help me so that I can take this information to people a head for to her the talks  brought by people who came from Juba to teach us so that they can here, that our people problems of this kind should be leave people should leave in peace, people leave with one heart  incase if problems are their children wanted to do we have to sit down and solve the issue before something happen that is the only way we can solve problems, if you solve problems when blood came from the other  it can’t be solve again’, she notes.

Ikwoto County chief Odongi Joseph encourages rural communities to have strong relationship among themselves.

He says having such workshops boost community peace

‘Actually it will benefit me a lot when we reach to community offcuorese so that we need to improve the community so that they should have relationship people have to be together they should love each other they also have to be in peace not in peaces this is the benefit of this workshop actually it is really very interesting to have this kind of workshop’.
