Education and Promotion Officer in the State Ministry of Health calls on citizens to wash their hands when visiting latrines to avoid spread of diseases.
Janet Orlando says the value of global hand washing day was to sensitize local communities on the dangers of poor health that may lead to many lost of lives among children.
She urges mothers to keep their breast clean before and after breast feeding.
‘For the reason why we do celebrate this Global hand washing day it’s because it’s one way of prevent sickness like diarrheal disease we know every year we lose many children because of this diarrheal disease it can be either contaminated water, contaminated food, contaminated hands, especially the mothers who are breastfeeding wash your hands clean with clean water running water with soap make sure you also clean the breast don’t just remove the breast and start breast feeding the baby’, he advises.
Orlando counsels the community to clean their utensils and drink treated water.
She encourages people to have latrines to avoid opened deification which she says will lead to spread of diseases such as cholera among others.
‘Also before preparing the family food treating the water which will be consumed at home make sure the utensils the water containers are clean your hands are also clean and the toilet also so that it should be free from flies, we encourage our people to use pit latrines because once we open deification we have friends and this friends ofours are flies they can’t leave us any time you come from the pit latrine wash your hands with clean water and soap’, says the health officer.
Orlando urges citizens to maintain their surroundings clean so as to avoid spread of diseases such as Malaria, Typhoid.
