UNHCR and its humanitarian partners are developing a joint action plan to help to prevent suicides in the POC camps in Malakal.
The plan is an awareness campaign entitled ‘Operation Hope’ focuses on how people can change how they live and view their lives.
Their aim is to stimulate young people and make them more resilient through a mix of Arabic pop, Congolese beats mix together with positive messages, football competitions and traditional dance performances.
The aid organization plans to reduce these cases by detecting those at risk and building referral systems.
According UNHCR Thirty four suicide attempts were recorded in 2017, many around the Christmas holidays in December.
It says so far in 2018, there have been twenty three attempts.
