Vietnam and the United Nations have inked a memorandum of understanding on Viet Nam’s to deploy a field hospital to South Sudan.
The MoU was signed by Ambassador Dang Dình Quý, Head of the Permanent Delegation of Vietnam to the UN and UN Under-Secretary-General for Field Support Atul Khare in New York on Wednesday.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, Khare expressed his belief that Viet Nam would deploy a high-quality hospital that could effectively contribute to the UN’s peacekeeping activities.
He hopes for more contributions from Vietnam on this important mission.
This is the first time Vietnam has sent military doctors to work with the UN’s peacekeeping force.
A send-off ceremony will be organized on October 1 at Tân Sơn Nhất International Airport.
63 military doctors will travel to South Sudan along with medical equipment to take over a field hospital run by United Kingdom, whose personnel are about to withdraw.
