A domestic observers’ group plans to recruit thousands of young officials to extend its monitoring work to referendum centres not covered during voter registration.
Sudan Domestic Election Monitoring and Observation Programme (SuDEMOP) Secretary General Merekaje Lorna told journalists yesterday that her organization would recruit 2600 young observers to cover the vote in South Sudan and in Kenya, Ethiopia and Uganda.Ms Lorna said it was cheaper to send trainers to prepare the new recruits in their respective areas instead of bringing them all the way to Juba.
Ms Lorna announced that SuDEMOP would create a civil society security organ dialogue forum to improve communication and increase networking.
She reiterated her concern over careless managing of registration cards among voters.
Ms Lorna called upon Referendum authorities, civil society groups and the media to educate the masses about the keeping the voting card safe.
Ms Lorna urged people to keep their voter cards carefully because they are the key for their future.
