TORIT DIOCESE MOURNS DIOCESAN PRIEST

The Catholic Diocese of Torit is in a state of deep sorrow following the sudden death of one of its priests.

Fr. Arkangelo Lopuke died unexpectedly yesterday morning, in Torit, Emmanuel Radio reported.

A requiem mass for Fr. Lopuke was held at Our Lady of Assumption Parish and his remains laid to rest at St. Peter and Paul Cathedral cemetery.

Fr. Lopuke, 43, was born in Palotaka and attended primary education in Torit from 1973 to 1979.

He completed high school at Torit Day Secondary School between 1979 and 1984.

In 1991, Fr. Lopuke was admitted to Orientation Course at St. Paul’s Major Seminary in Khartoum.

He continued his philosophical and theological studies in Khartoum and was ordained priest in 200.

Fr. Lopuke worked as parish priest of Umm Badda Shimal parish-Omdurman and later as assistant parish priest of Sts. Peter and Paul-parish in Khartoum in 2003.

He returned to Torit in 2004 and was appointed Assistant parish priest of Palotaka parish and later as an assistant parish priest of St. Peter and Paul Cathedral in Torit.

Colleague priests described Fr. Fr. Lopuke as a cheerful priest and a powerful preacher.
