German government donates over twelve million US dollars to World Food Programme or WFP to help build strong communities in South Sudan.
The contribution comes as WFP and partners are pressing to scale up food assistance to reach nearly five million people in the worst-affected areas of South Sudan.
The German funding will run until 2021 from the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development.
Ambassador of Germany to South Sudan, Jan Hendrik van Thiel, pledges that his country will continue to support the people of South Sudan.
“the money will help WFP to provide vital support to the most vulnerable people and allow them contribute to building a strong future in the country” says World Food Program Country Director in South Sudan, Adnan Khan
Khan says the donation will allow WFP to improve the resilience and food security of 180,000 people in the Lakes, Western Equatoria, Warrap and Abyei regions.
Germany is a long-standing partner of World Food Program providing assistance in South Sudan and has contributed more than 80 million us dollars since 2015.
