Troika needs to see a significant change in political parties’ approach to be convinced of their commitment,’ says UK Special Envoy for South Sudan and Sudan.
Chris Trott, who represents the Troika in the peace talks, calls for an end to violence and full humanitarian access, release of political prisoners and effective implementation of the peace deal.
He sais Troika wants to see checks on executive power and the transparent use of resources for the benefit of all South Sudanese.
The diplomat says the international community is ready to support the parties, but they should persuade the world that there is real joint political will to implement the signed agreement.
Spokesperson for President Salva Kiir, Mayiik Ayii Deng says it is necessary to bring peace to the people of South Sudan.
He adds that it will take time to end the suffering of the people of South Sudan.
Spokesperson of SPLM In-Opposition Manawa Peter Gatkuoth thinks ‘three years will not be enough to build the confidence between the warring parties’.
He adds that it will also take time to reconcile the people of South Sudan given their suffering.
The spokesperson calls on the international community to support the new peace deal to endure.
