UN Mission in South Sudan or UNMISS relocated three thousand and five hundred IDPs mostly women and children from its protection of civilian site at the foot of Korok hill to Mangaten, north of Juba town.
The head of UNMISS, David Shearer, pledges that the Mission will continue to take the IDPs to where they feel save.
‘They had expressed a strong desire to leave the UN site and to be reunited with their husbands and other family members’, he notes.
The UNMISS Chief describes the efforts of humanitarian bodies and UNMISS peacekeepers to help the IDPs’ shelters as ‘successful’ within a short period of time.
The head expresses gratitude to the government for quick response to safely move and accommodate people back into their communities.
The relocation came after the group of Taban Deng clashed with that of Dr Riek Machar at UNMISS’ protection of civilians site at the end of August.
In another news development, Humanitarian Coordinator, Alain Noudéhou praises the aid organizations for providing shelters to IDPs at Mangaten.
The organizations are now undertaking rapid assessments of the needs of the people who have moved to Mangaten, he discloses.
The Coordinator says the community living at Mangaten welcomed them with open arms and the agencies will do their utmost to support both the community and IDPs.
