Cases of Gender base violence are increasing in Tonj State, says Organization for Children Harmony or TOCH officer .

Don Bosco Radio quoted Alfred Athian confirming that 48-year-old man raped an eight-year-old girl last week.

The officer stresses that they offer support to treat victims by contributing money and sometimes provide transport to the nearest health facility or police station.

He believes members of the community are not aware of the causes of sexually transmitted infections.

James Marial Aliap, a staff from the office of Child Protection in Tonj State attributes the increase of gender violence in the area to high rate of illiteracy.

He urges the public to cooperate with the Child Protection office and report cases of gender-based violence in Tonj State.

The staff reveals that many people hide some cases claiming that they are shameful and should not be spoken or reported to public institutions.

Awareness on the dangers of gender-based violence and moral ways of bringing up children should be made in order to enlighten the communities.

The speakers talked to Don Bosco Radio on Thursday during Human Rights Program Discussion in Tonj.
