The Association of Member Episcopal Conferences in Eastern Africa or AMECEA is starting on Sunday with holy mass concelebrated by Catholic Bishops of the region.
Representative of Pope Francis, Ethiopian top government officials and other dignitaries are expected to attend the mass followed by a ceremony, says press statement.
It says the Catholic Christians from all dioceses in Ethiopia have also been invited to attend the Holy Mass.
The Assembly is under the theme: ‘Vibrant diversity, equal dignity, peaceful unity in God in AMECEA region’.
In the statement, Bishops say ‘we witness ethnic-based violence in different parts of the region and yet tribal diversity is a beautiful gift from God which we need to embrace.
The plenary will transmit the message to people and also decide on how the Catholic Church can work to achieve peace among people in AMECEA countries, reads part of the statement.
The Catholic prelates ask all faithful and all people of good will to continue praying for vibrant diversity, equal dignity, and peaceful unity in God in AMECEA region.
AMECEA has nine-member countries namely: Ethiopia, Eritrea, Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Sudan, South Sudan, Zambia and Malawi.
Djibouti and Somalia are affiliate members of the Association of Member Episcopal Conferences in Eastern Africa.
