The government of Gbudue State is requesting the armed opposition group in the area to observe and respect the ceasefire agreement.

State Information Minister Gibson Bullen Wande reacted after gunmen kidnapped civilians in Gitikiri on Wednesday and looted property within the town on Thursday.

He condemns the act, saying it is not important to violate the agreement.

Minister Wande appeals to the armed men to release all the abducted civilians without condition.

He also calls on them to stop causing atrocity against civilians in Gbudue State.

The Minister expresses government’s commitment to abide by the resolution of the permanent ceasefire.

He adds that the government will only fight in self-defence.

President Kiir and the opposition on Wednesday agreed on a permanent ceasefire to take effect within 72 hours.
