The chairperson for Torit state peace commission has urged peace partners to conduct civic education among communities before any reconciliation.
German Charles Ojok belives civic education is important for communities so as to know about the importance of peace and avoid wastage of resources.
‘These people need civic education, they need to be educated that is why I say it could be for seven even if 10 days so that five days can be for training and three days or 2 days will be for making peace that will be so much great you better make it a bite bigger it should not be like 2 days or three days it will not be enough but if they are well educated other will understand and start to think its importance and they can now share and help each other’
Charles discloses that his office is working hard to do consultations with the grass root to find out the truth about the conflict in communities.
Meanwhile Bongmin Franco who works for SOLAR organization says the peace initiatives should be given to the local population in order for them to own and sustain the lasting peace within the community.
‘We should also come up with the road marks where the initiatives for lasting peace and sustainable where it need peace awareness and also trying to involve the local communities to hold their own peace by themselves because they have their own criteria it just a matter of giving them support and advise and calling them’
The officials made this remark during peace partners’ coordination meeting at peace commission office in Torit on Thursday.
