The Vicar General of the Catholic Diocese of Yei says number of young mothers among South Sudanese living in the refugee camps in the neighbouring Uganda is on rise.

Fr. Zachariah Angutua Sebit says many young South Sudanese girls are producing children at their young age. Easter Radio reports.

He says the Ugandan authorities are even concerned of the ruining future of the South Sudanese children in the camps

‘You find a child carrying another child. The Prime Minster of Uganda is also asking what future are you dreaming of? You find girls in their 16 to 17 years are already mothers,” Fr Angutu said

The vicar general observes that most of the victims of the early pregnancy are the children living without their parents.

According to the United Nations estimate, there are more than one million South Sudanese currently living as refugees camps in Uganda alone.
