Emeritus Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Torit is calling on operating teak companies to cut and plant new ones.

Bishop Paride Taban made the call during his visit to Katire and witnessed massive cutting of timbers in Katire forest.

He urges the state and national governments to monitor the cutting of timbers by ensuring that more teaks are planted.

The Catholic prelate worries that cutting of timbers without re-planting will leave the plantation without fresh teaks.

Bishop Taban tells the state and national governments to use timber income for developmental activities such as building roads and electricity.

He calls on the government to be accountable for the timber logging in Katire.

The prelate appreciates the people of Katire for improved security in the area.

Bishop Paride Taban made the statement to Emmanuel Radio during his visit to Katire timber plantation on Saturday.
