The mayor of Tonj on Tuesday ordered the closing down of butcheries in Tonj Municipality main market.
The order came after traders refused to stop slaughtering sick cows in the slaughter house and raised meat prices without his knowledge.
Joseph Anei Madoor says last week he discovered that the price of meat was increased from 400 to 500 SSP without informing him.
The mayor stresses that the order will be effective for one week and the town council committee will sit with them to discuss the matter.
Commissioner of Revenue Authority Tito Sijin Ayii comments that they are working hand in hand with the municipality to see that community is eating healthy meat.
He encourages traders to cooperate with government authorities to render good services to the people.
Mary Adut Peter appreciates the Mayor for taking steps to close butcheries because it is better to stay without meat instead of unhealthy cows.
Don Bosco Radio efforts to reach the butchers for comments were in vain.
