The Government of Southern Sudan appreciated President al-Bashir’s statement on the upcoming referendum, while condemning his remarks on Misseriya vote in Abyei referendum.
President Omar Hassan Al-Bashir said yesterday at the end of a National Congress Party meeting in Khartoum that the CPA granted southerners the right to decide for unity or secession.GoSS spokesman Barnaba Marial Benjamin told the press that his government appreciated Mr. Al-Bashir’s clarity to recognize that unity or secession are the options inscribed in the CPA, Bakhita Radio reported.
Dr. Marial revealed that the majority of Southerners will opt for separation.
He asked the President to let the northerners know that separation will be a reality.
Dr. Marial condemned Mr. Al-Bashir’s call for the Misseriya to vote in the Abyei referendum.
GoSS spokesman said the President should be the custodian of Ngok Dinka’s rights and the defender of their concerns.
Dr. Marial accused a Misseriya group to be behind Wednesday’s attack against a SPLA truck that killed eight people, including two women, and left six seriously wounded in Unity State.
He said that when Abyei was put under South Kordofan administration in 1905 there were no Misseriya in the area, only the Ngok Dinka.
Dr. Marial urged Mr. Al-Bashir to be the president of all Sudanese and not to take sides with the Misseriya.
