The Project Officer for Community Initiative Development Organization has criticized parents against giving much work to girls at home leading to poor academic performance.

This comes after Dayan Luke Otto met with various schools in Torit and discussed the reasons why girls are performing poorly. Emmanuel Radio reports.

Mr Otto says girls are facing a lot of difficulties at home compared to boys.

‘We have focus group discussion with the girls they raised the issue that they have been given a lot of work that is why there not performing their duties at time they will go late in the school you will find that boys will go fast a then for them they will be delayed. Then the parent was also giving them hardship this hard ship the parent where giving corporal punishment is very commune in the municipal’.

The Project Officer adds that some parents look at their daughters as source of wealth without valuing their education.

‘We found that girls are most suffering because they tell, even sometime due to payment of the school fees. so parents are haring for what, for boys and also this forced marriage they can also get it which is also very common’.

Mr Otto appeals to parents to treat their children equally regardless of their gender.
