Members of South Sudan Council of Churches, SSCC met privately with Pope Francis on Friday and again invited him to visit the country.
Speaking to Catholic News Agency on Friday in the Vatican, Bishop Paride Taban, emeritus bishop of Torit Catholic Diocese says their aim is to update Pope Francis on several joint initiatives of the council to provide humanitarian aid and prompt international leaders to intervene in finding a solution to the conflict.
‘We are here as representatives of the various churches. We came as Christians to show that the body of Christ is bleeding”. He stated.
Bishop Taban adds that the citizens of South Sudan needs healing and that they are crying for peace, which cannot be brought by arms, but by sense of compassion, spirit of love and forgiveness.
He hopes that the coming Easter feast would also be a resurrection of people from their suffering.
Rev. James Oyet Latansio, Secretary of the SSCC, says they re-invited Pope Francis to consider visiting South Sudan.
According to the delegation, the pope expressed the strong desire to visit, but did not specify when.
Members of the delegation included bishops and leaders of different Christian denominations in South Sudan, including Catholics, Anglicans and Presbyterians.
