CARE International has established women and girls’ friendly center in Mankien in the former Unity State.

In a statement on Thursday, the aid organization says the center aims at enabling women and girls to learn skills to generate income, Bakhita Radio reports.

The center will also allow women and girls to share their thoughts, feelings and experiences without judgment or criticism, the organization adds.

One of the beneficiaries explains that she has learnt how to make beads and hope to sell them and use the money to support herself.

Patrick Vuonze, Gender-based Violence Project Manager for CARE South Sudan, says they have seen a great change in how women and girls view sexual and physical violence.

He mentions that violence and abuse used to be something culturally acceptable among the locals, but there are changes because many women are questioning why they should suffer.

CARE says it is currently establishing three more women and girls’ friendly spaces in Mankien.
