Women in Yei River County are concerned about lack of clean drinking water since the outbreak of war in the area.

Vice Chairlady of Women Association, Hawa Adam says shortage of boreholes and other clean water points has caused rampant diseases.

She appeals to the government to construct more boreholes to access clean water.

‘The challenges that women are facing is the issue of water. There are rampant chronic diseases that women, children and other people are getting through water’. So as women, we are appealing to NGO and the government so that more boreholes are constructed so that they can have access to clean water.

The Chairlady adds that most of the boreholes, especially in areas where the displaced people are returning to, are broken-down.

‘We are also looking at the number of returnees who are coming from Uganda or from other countries, the area that they are going through, there are no boreholes and most of them are broken down. So we are requesting that the NGOs that are within and in partnership with the government so that they should do something for the returnees and the citizens around that area can have clean water’.

The Vice Chairlady was speaking to Radio Easter in an exclusive interview.
