Civil society condemns UN police for abusing women in Wau

Wau Civil Society Organizations Network strongly condemns the Ghanaian UN police in Wau for sexually abusing women.
 
Joseph Luka Akuar, chairman of the Network says they will continue to work hard to see investigation completed, Radio Voice of Hope Radio reports.
 
Bad behaviors of some individuals in UNMISS turn down the contribution of the Mission to realize partial stability, the leader notes.
 
‘We do not know how to describe the act which was committed by people who are supposed to be protectors, but became the ones abusing the IDPs’, Luka regrets.
 
Earlier, UNMISS said it received a complaint from women last month, alleging that the UN police are engaged in sexual activity with displaced women.
 
UNMISS says the Office of Internal Oversight Services, an independent office within the UN would investigate the scandal.
