A South Sudanese professor has described the Pope’s prayer initiative for South Sudan and the Democratic Republic of Congo as a blessing for citizens.

Speaking to Anisa Radio in Yambio on Thursday, Professor Gbono John says the prayer is a special chance for the people of the two Countries to build everlasting peace.

He appeals to the leaders and citizens of these nations to appreciate the call and make use of it and work to bring peace and stability to their countries.

He says the initiative expresses the closeness of Pope Francis to the people who are suffering in the conflict.

Gbono reiterates that Christians should pray together with the Pope for peace because it is not only the government that can make peace but it is a collective responsibility of every citizen.

He calls on the leaders of South Sudan to think about the call of the pope and negotiate in good faith so that they can be able to bring lasting peace to the country.

Last Sunday the Catholic Bishop of Tombura Yambio Barani Eduardo Hiiboro Kussala launched prayer for peace all over the Diocese in response to the call of the Holy Father.
