The Government of Southern Sudan said it will protect interests and properties of traders and investors including merchants from northern Sudan.
Many traders are leaving south Sudan to the north and to neighbouring countries ahead of the referendum on self-determination for Southerners.GoSS Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Barnaba Marial Benjamin, urged traders to carry on with their activities because his government assures them of full protection in order for them to serve the people of South Sudan.
Dr. Marial said northern traders are most welcomed in south Sudan even if it votes for separation.
He added that reports on Arabic papers about northern traders being targeted in South Sudan were false.
Dr. Marial made these statements during his weekly press forum this morning at his ministry.
