Citizens in Torit Imotong State are asking Fire Brigade department to double their efforts in responding to fire incidents in the area.

They complain that the department is completely doing nothing to rescue burning houses, Radio Emmanuel reports.

Many residents in Torit say most fire incidences happening in the town are being handled by the community members in the absence of Fire Brigade officers at the scene.

John Okwahi, a resident of Moruari area, says he has never witnessed fire brigade rescuing any burning incident.

He urges the department to be quick in responding to fire because some community members cannot rescue.

Another resident of Torit town, Dorcas Sunday, says when there is fire incident, Fire Brigade officers sometime complain that the truck has no fuel or has mechanical problem which prevent them from responding to the call.

Speaking in Arabic, Sunday doubts if fire brigade services are available in the state

She appeals to the department to lobby for funds from nongovernmental organizations to help bring back water truck on road.

Sala John, Fire Brigade Acting Director admits lack of communication and accessibility to the scene is a challenge to their mandate.

He acknowledges that it is the responsibility of Fire Brigade Service to protect the property of citizens from fire.

The only equipment available at the moment is three fire extinguishers but transport remains a challenge, the Director complains.

He appreciates the community for their cooperation during fire incidents and encourages them to continue working together for their own safety.
