Parliament accuses UNMISS of hosting criminals in POCs

Members of the Transitional National Assembly are accusing UN Mission in South Sudan or UNMISS of hosting criminals inside the protection of civilians side in Jebel.
 
They say UNMISS is working outside its mandate and collaborating with criminals to carry out crime activities against innocent civilians.
 
Gabriel Goch Goch raised an urgent motion on Wednesday, saying the Mission is working to towards destabilize South Sudan by allowing criminals to abduct and murder innocent civilians and hide inside the camp.
 
The parliament members’ condemned the killing of the three brothers who were killed last week by unknown suspects alleged to be from the POC.
 
Goch adds that some UNMISS personnel are acting outside their mandate and as such proven to be working against South Sudan by hosting criminals operating and hiding within the POC.
 
UNMISS Chief David Shearer says UNMISS will not tolerate people who commit crimes outside and hide behind women and children who need protection inside the camp.
 
Actions of a few must not jeopardize the safety of 39,000 vulnerable people, he points out.
 
UNMISS is firmly committed to fulfill its mandate to protect civilians and maintain the safety of displaced people within protection sites.
 
Late last week, UNMISS said a number of suspects were apprehended and handed over to the South Sudan National Police Service for further investigation.
 
The Assembly summons Ministers of Interior, National Security and Cabinet Affairs next week to answer questions over the security situation in Juba and other parts of the country.
