FOOD INSECURITY IN SOUTH SUDAN STILL DAUNTING

Half of the population in South Sudan is in dire need of food assistance despite a much better harvest this year, said an official.

Ali Said, a FAO expert on food security programmes, told SCR News that food insecurity has put almost four million people in dire need of food aid.

Asked how the government has intervened to prevent the situation to worsen, Beda Machar Deng, the undersecretary in GoSS ministry of Agriculture, said the ministry distributed seeds and tools to the farming population and encouraged group farmimng..

Mr. Said mentioned that food insecurity is widely affecting mostly Northern Bahr El Ghazal and Jonglei states due to floods and tribal conflicts.
