Dinka Ngok community of the disputed area of Abyei has organized a peaceful demonstration on Tuesday, accusing UNISFA of implementing policies that favor Sudanese government over South Sudan.
In a letter addressed to the UN Secretary General, Antonio Guttaress, the community leaders say UNISFA officials are not implementing projects that benefit the area.
They call for the immediate removal of the Chief of Mission Support and the head Engineering Unite.
The community also accuses them of employing majority of unclassified staff from Sudan instead of the locals.
The Chief of Mission Support of CMS and the entire civil component are no longer neutral in the disputed area of Abyei, the community leaders complain.
They add that the recognition of the Sudanese visa alone is a clear violation of the Status of Forces Agreement or SOFA signed by both countries in 2012.
In addition, UNISFA officials plan to recruit companies of unknown background to mess up with local human resources which undermine the traditional leaders.
Chief Makuac, while reading the statement says the above issues they pointed out have affected the developmental projects in Abyei.
The community leaders call on UNISFA to do some changes in the policy to save the situation from further deterioration.
Nyarop Akok has been working as an administrator at UNISFA for the last three years, but her contract has not been renewed since November last year.
UNISFA’s Spokesperson, Daniel Adekera, notes that there is misunderstanding between the community and UNISFA.
Adekera promises that the UNISFA administration will deliver the message to the UN Secretary General and wait for his responds.
