Women call for peace talks between Didinga and Logir communities

Women in Budi County of Kapoeta State are calling on Church leaders and government officials to organize peace talks between Didinga and Logir communities of Imotong State.
 
Opinion leader who identifies herself only as Mary says, several young men and women have died in conflict between the two communities, Radio Emmanuel reports.
 
She says the conflict is mainly caused by cattle rustling, forcing communities to abandon their agricultural activities and settled in nonproductive areas.
 
Other women who spoke in the meeting complain of gender-based violence as one of the negative practices in the area due to over consumption of alcohol by men.
 
Fr Arkangelo Lokoro, Vicar General of the Catholic Diocese of Torit stresses the importance of women participation in peace building.
 
He says the talents, experiences and wisdom women have can greatly contribute to peace in the community.
 
The peace meeting under the theme: ‘Peace sensitization for women and youth,’ which took place on December 28, 2017 attracted area Chief Lino Lokwarith, youth, women, community elders and church leaders.
 
The meeting that Caritas Torit, Justice and Peace Department organized was funded by Norwegian Church Aid.
