The Head of UN Mission in Torit is calling on the warring parties to cease fire, lay down their guns and resolve their differences peacefully.
Mary Cummins says positive peace can only be realized if South Sudanese accept to lay down arms to bring an end to the conflict, Radio Emmanuel reports.
She urges the parties to the conflict to show political will in the country by participating in the national dialogue process for peace to prevail.
Cummins says killing innocent civilians will hinder peace in the country.
She calls on those involved in the fighting to work for peace and development.
Cummins advises them to have pity on the war affected people, including IDPs and the refugees in the neighbouring countries.
She expresses UN commitment to work for a sustainable peace as it is the key element to development.
Cummins urges South Sudanese to forgive one another and engage in the national dialogue.
The UNMISS head of Mission in Torit made the remarks while addressing citizens during the Christmas Carol celebration at Torit State Hospital on Sunday.
