UN Human Rights experts visit South Sudan, Uganda and Ethiopia

Members of the UN Commission on Human Rights in South Sudan are beginning their fourth visit to South Sudan, Uganda and Ethiopia.
 
Commissioners Yasmin Sooka and Andrew Clapham will be in South Sudan from Monday to Saturday. 
 
In South Sudan the Commissioners will meet national government officials including ministers and the First Vice President, members of civil society.
 
They are expected to discuss the current human rights situation in the country with religious leaders, diplomats and UN agencies including the Special Representative of the Secretary-General in South Sudan, David Shearer.
 
They will visit camps for internally displaced persons across the country, including UNMISS Protection of Civilian sites, to meet the people, community leaders and civil society organizations.
 
The Commissioners will visit Uganda and Ethiopia and refugee camps and settlements along the South Sudanese border.
 
The experts are expected to meet African Union leaders, the Intergovernmental Authority on Development senior UN officials, other members of the international community and opposition groups in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. 
 
The Commission will present its next report to the Human Rights Council in March 2018.
