The speaker of Southern Sudan Legislative Assembly yesterday addressed the citizens of Upper Nile state at Malakal stadium on referendum issues.

James Wani Igga told the audience that the referendum for self-determination of southern Sudan was one of the milestones in the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA) that must be implemented, Voice of Love reported.

Mr. Igga said the referendum was the result of two long wars waged by the people of South Sudan against the Khartoum regimes since independence.

He added that the National Congress Party did not want the referendum to take place but the SPLM would make sure that the vote is taken on time.

Mr. Igga called upon the people of South Sudan to fight against tribalism and to work hard for their own unity without any discrimination.

He told the citizens never to allow their votes for freedom to be bought by money at the polling centres.

The Speaker assured Muslims in the south that their rights would be protected if the people of southern Sudan chose separation.
