The mayor of Torit municipality is warning citizens against unnecessary burning of the bush.
Juliana Momoi Choho after issuing an order to reduce unnecessary burning of people’s gardens believes fires will destroy farms leading to continuous famine in the state.
She says the burning of gardens that happened last year by unknown persons should not repeat itself this year.
The mayor says violators will be fined to pay five thousand pounds and be jailed for three months.
Momoi says she will use local chiefs to report cases of unnecessary burning so as perpetrators are brought to book.
The Mayor was speaking to Radio Emmanuel in her office.
