The presidential order in ensuring that humanitarian aid is not hindered around the country carries weight, says Chief of UN Mission in South Sudan or UNMISS.

David Shearer welcomes the move and expects security forces on the ground to follow the order.

He says access to the needy is a tricky issue because of the presence of what he terms as ‘informal checkpoints’.

The UNMISS Chief believes the presidents’ order will serve the interest of over six million South Sudanese in need of relief aid.

He pledges that UN will continue to monitor the progress of the access of aid workers to the needy in the country.

President Salva Kiir Mayardit last week ordered humanitarian aid convoys to be allowed to move freely around South Sudan.
