South Sudan HIV/AIDS Commission reports that there is high number of females living with HIV in the country compared to male.

The estimate came during a three-day stakeholders’ annual planning meeting and review of HIV/AIDS on Wednesday in Torit, Radio Emmanuel reports.

Habib Dafaalah Awongo, Director-General of South Sudan AIDs Commission attributes the increase in female to the growing rate of commercial sex workers.

He says almost three quarters of people living with HIV have limited access to Anti-retroviral drugs which exposes their lives to more risks.

Some officials in a separate meeting raise concerns over chances of women engaging in commercial sex due to the ongoing economic crisis in the country.

Augustine Okwahi, Director-General for Health and Environment in Imotong, says health partners in the state are creating awareness to the citizens about the disease.

The three-day annual meeting was organized by the Imotong State Ministry of Health and Environment.
