Imotong State last week joined the world to commemorate Global Hand Washing Day in Torit, under the theme: ‘Our hands our future’.

The day is an annual event marked on October 15 and the state celebrated it on October 20, 2017, Radio Emmanuel reports.

Clement Loku Chichim, Imotong State Minister of Agriculture, says human beings must live in a clean environment and edible items be well cooked to avoid diseases.

He urges citizens to practice good hygiene by washing their hands during and after cooking food.

Jacob Atari Albano, Imotong State Minister of Information, says digging latrines to keep good hygiene and sanitation in the family is the responsibility of parents.

Communities in Imotong State need much sensitization about the dangers of poor hygiene, he adds.

Atari urges the local population in Torit Town to use latrines for better health instead of practicing open defecation.

The officials spoke during Global Hand Washing Day celebration in Torit last Friday.
