Some traders of charcoal and water in Wau town said they are unable to reduce prices of their charcoal and water because of the high prices of other commodities in the market.
They say they cannot reduce their prices according to the Mayor’s order. Voice of hope reports.
Last week Wau municipal mayor Celestina Livio Gelego Bahara issued local order reducing the price of one sack of charcoal from 1200 SSP to 600 SSP. The price of water was reduced to 5 SSP.
But charcoal traders said they are being taxed 150 SSP at the check point by the government.
Others added that spare parts of bicycle are very expensive which make them not to reduce the price of charcoal.
A student who owns a small business of charcoal said they cannot reduce their prices when other food commodities are still high in the market.
Spare parts and stationeries and on top of that the prices of food commodities are too expensive, traders say.
One of the water tank revealed that the increment of fuel price contributes to the increment of water in the town.
The Mayor’s orders stated that any charcoal or water trader who violates these orders shall be fined or water tank and bicycles would be confiscated.
