The renewed conflict in 2016 has impended progress of the implementation of the peace deal and also reversed the gains made, says Joint and Monitoring Evaluation Commission Chief.

Speaking during an evaluation review workshop on the ARCSS held in Juba, on Monday Festus Mogae notes that ongoing displacement of civilians and threat of food insecurity have been escalated amidst a dire economic situation.

Mogae adds that JMEC has submitted special reports to IGAD on key incidents and specific issues.

He reveals that the South Sudanese are still waiting to enjoy the peace they hope for.

Mogae adds that both warring parties to the peace deal have violated the agreement several times and urged them to take responsibility of their acts.

I hope that the Committee’s assessment shall enable the parties, the region and all South Sudanese stakeholders to pursue the revitalization process from an informed point of view, says Mogae.

He encourages them to take concrete steps to revitalize the implementation of the Peace Agreement without further delays.
