The head of the United Nations Mission in South Sudan or UNMISS has reiterated his calls on South Sudanese leaders to find a political solution to bring peace in the country.
In his message letter on the occasion of the International Peace Day, David Shearer said the nearly four years of conflict has affected civilians in many ways. He says there is a need to end the conflict and restore peace and stability in South Sudan.
Shearer noted that half the population is suffering from severe hunger and one-third of the population have fled their homes or have crossed into neighboring countries. There is a need for them to return to their normal, he adds.
Shearer admits that the UN Mission is committed to working with the people of South Sudan by protecting civilians and building durable peace.
‘We want the children of South Sudan to be able to reach their full potential. We want people to be able to live safely and with dignity in their own homes, he adds
