Eastern Equatoria needs more voter awareness campaigns in order to increase the registration turn-up in the region.

Emmanuel Radio toured seven referendum centres around Torit on the second day of registration and witnessed a low number of citizens enrolling for the elections and women were hardly seen.

Clementina Atwari, an officer at Torit County Centre Three, raised her concern over the low response of women for registration, saying that on the first day only nine women turned up among 170 registered voters although they constituted the majority of population.

James Otorim, who heads another Referendum Centre at the Episcopal Church of Sudan, complained that the place was not known by the public at all.

Mr. Otorim said people needed to move with megaphones to inform voters about the location.

Mr. Otori revealed that only ninety voters registered at the centre during day one.
