Specialists blew up some 75 kilos of explosives collected in Tonj during an ongoing demining exercise to make the place safer.
Phil Harley works for G4S Ordinances Management and heads demining operations in Tonj, Warrap State. He said Saturday’s controlled explosions brought to 125 kilos the amount of explosives blown up in the area during the last month, Don Bosco FM reported.Mr. Harley said demining is a slow long-term exercise.
He added that it prevents personal injuries and provides a safe environment for agriculture.
This is the second time the team is in Tonj for demining and survey work collecting mortars, mines and other unexploded shells to make the area safe.
