Local chiefs of Yei River State complain of not being recognized by the government at all levels.

Cofuzus Galle, Sub-chief of Gimunu Boma of Yei River County, says chiefs worked together with the SPLA during the liberation struggle, but now they are not considered, Radio Easter reports.

Chiefs were the ones who fed the SPLA during the 21-year war, now they are not being trusted and respected especially after the independence, he points out.

Chief Galle appeals to the government to stop the ongoing fighting and work for development.

Michael Modi, an elder of Yei River County, reminds that local chiefs in South Sudan are not recognized and motivated compared to their counterparts in Kenya.

The local chiefs were speaking to Radio Easter on Tuesday in Yei.
